The history of Jack Jouett

Here at the Jack Jouett Tavern we honor the history of the “Paul Revere of the South.”

John “Jack” Jouett rode for 40-miles on horseback to Monticello to the then Governor of Virginia, Thomas Jefferson to warn him that the British forces were on their way to capture him. Because of Jouett, Jefferson was able to escape.

In 1782, Jouett moved to Kentucky and served in the legislature, became a planter, and was a breeder for horses.

Just down the road from The Woodford Club lays The Jack Jouett House Historic Site.
